Molly Goddard: Ready-To-Wear AW23

It was ground zero for Molly Goddard who staged her show in her East London studio. Her collection, too, honed in on the beating heart of Mollyworld. Fabulous smocking, whimsical net dresses, child-like proportions, and boyfriend coats feminised with pretty bands of ribbon – this show had everything Molly fans want and more. It oozed charm and practicality. This was a Molly Goddard wardrobe firmly rooted in real life – a whirl of opening nights and dinners (velvet sheath dresses, banded with ribbons), weekend errands (natty leopard print jeans, branded track tops) and plenty of parties (smocked sheer dresses aplenty). There’s a sense of nostalgia, femininity and romance to the Molly look, that puts you in mind of the heyday of Laura Ashley.

The knitwear was especially good. Goddard has always made a nifty knit. Her sloppy boyfriend jumpers are some of the best you’ll find – familiar and easy to love, like an old friend. Here the mood was more ladylike, with odes to the fully-fashioned knits of the 1950s.
