British-Nigerian photographer and filmmaker Gabriel Moses is well on his way to becoming one of the greats. Tracking his remarkable journey to industry-wide recognition, his upcoming monograph Regina – which takes its name from Moses’ studio and the Latin word for queen – will explore his distinctive style of photography whilst paying homage to the women who have influenced his career.
Known for his moody colours and powerful use of light and shadow, the publication will showcase a range of Moses’ work across the years. Deeply inspired by his South London-based childhood and Nigerian heritage, the rising star has become the favoured choice to shoot powerhouse celebs such as Skepta, Little Simz and A$AP Rocky, stamping his signature stirring visual language on every image he creates. Famously getting his start at the ripe age of 18, when he secured his first commission for a campaign from sportswear giant Nike, Moses went on to forge significant relationships with a swathe of luxury brands. Entirely self-taught, he has shot major campaigns for Burberry, Bottega Veneta and Chanel, as well as becoming a regular collaborator of Pharrell at Louis Vuitton. Featuring a selection of his most impactful images as well as some unreleased work, the book will highlight Moses’ connection to family, culture, community and the women who influenced his work.
An assortment of essays are set to accompany the photographs, with a foreword written by Moses himself. Insightful explorations of Moses’ work and style will be written by renowned editor Federico Sargentone, whilst personal accounts will be written by collaborators such as designer Matthew Williams and A Cold Wall* founder Samuel Ross. Conversations with friends such as legendary photographer Nick Knight and Skepta will also be peppered throughout the pages.
Designed by art director Hassan Rahim and edited by creative director and consultant Katja Horvat, Moses has quite the crack team behind him to make the hardback the next must-have collectable. Scheduled for release on April 9 by Prestel Publishing, it’s not one to miss.
