Dean and Dan Caten’s AW22 outing for Dsquared2 was all about taking a trip. “After years of staying at home, gazing at the world outside with wanderlust”, their bohemian travellers roam “with intentions of peace and love… and they dress with the same attitude” we were informed. Packed with luxe-hippy signatures – see corduroy flares, love-worn knitwear and ropes of stone necklaces – that were layered as if to reflect the multiple stops on their journey, it was a fresh take on the familiar, with checked shirts and skirts giving it a grunge note, too.
The secret to the mash-up appeal of this collection was the styling: printed dresses and leather skirts were worn over baggy washed-out denim and met with chunky ankle and lace-up moccasins; blankets and gilets and cardigans and jumpers were all clashed together, with huge outerwear to protect from the elements accessorised with scarves and sunnies and bags. Girls on the go, of course, need good bags, which a collaboration with Invicta took care of. The retro styling of the Italian backpacks perfectly complemented the nostalgia for travel which this show evoked. Time to book that bus.
