Lanvin names Peter Copping as its new artistic director.
A British national and graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London, Copping saw his start at Sonia Rykiel before moving on to work at Louis Vuitton with Marc Jacobs as head of womenswear. After his departure from the New York brand, Copping was named as the creative director of Nina Ricci until he was eventually named the successor of Oscar de la Renta. His latest stint was served as head of couture, VIP and special projects at Balenciaga.
Copping comments, “Jeanne Lanvin was a visionary of her time whose interests and passions extended far beyond fashion, as do my own. I am extremely honoured to have been chosen as artistic director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic house.”
“Copping’s arrival at Lanvin is an important milestone in the renaissance of one of the great French maisons. I am confident that with Peter’s vision and technical rigour and the continued perseverance of our teams globally, we will identify a new frontier in fashion and deliver beauty and results in equal measure,” comments Lavin deputy CEO Siddhartha Shukla.
Following Bruno Sialelli‘s exit from the house’s helm in April 2023, Copping’s appointment marks the start of a new chapter for France’s oldest couture houses. Ending Lanvin’s year long search for a new artistic visionary, Copping is gearing up to showcase his tried and true practice as the creative lead for womenswear and menswear from September 2024.
