Michael Kors: Ready-To-Wear SS24

Romance, class and a myriad of lace-laden silhouettes awaited guests at Michael Kors’ SS24 runway. Showing at Brooklyn’s Domino Park on the fourth day of New York Fashion Week, this cool yet colourful palette drew inspiration from the island of Capri, bouncing between sorbet-infused shades like melon, freesia and geranium. Kors approached shaping from a playful place, weaving in elongated flare sleeves, thigh-high slits and flowing kaftans throughout. As the collection progressed, an element of attitude and edge permeated, with leather detailing, sheer dresses and prints of floral and giraffe proving that sophistication doesn’t have to mean spiritless.

The showing was star-studded both on and off the runway. With stars like Blake Lively, Halle Berry and Rita Ora peppering the A-list front row, the American designer also looked to style symbols of the 60s and 70s to infuse into the collection. Models like Vittoria Ceretti and Ashley Graham strutted, wicker basket in hand – a nod to the recently passed singer and fashion icon Jane Birkin – with other stars like Paloma Elsesser and Emily Ratajkowski hinting at Kors’ desire to dress the contemporary woman. Further drawing on beacons of individual style such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis – with boxy suiting making the occasional appearance – and equipping models with understated, flat shoes, Kors pushed a laid-back yet personal approach to dressing.

Sitting comfortably at 65 looks, the collection – which also features a handful of menswear looks – marks the brand’s first fashion week outing since the announcement that its holding company, Capri, would be purchased by Tapestry – the same multinational corp that owns Coach and Stuart Weitzman. Marking a new chapter for the luxury label, this resort-centric showcase was easy, breezy, beautiful. Effortlessly Micheal Kors.
