Karl Lagerfeld always knew how to pick the perfect Chanel muse. From Keira Knightley and Kristen Stewart, to Lily Allen and Willow Smith, the late genius would pick women from all creative fields to front the brand’s glossy campaigns and even star in the brand’s fashion week shows. When it came to the men, however, one rather extraordinary talent was the ultimate Chanel muse. Pharrell Williams is the only male to ever star in Chanel campaigns, walk the Chanel catwalk and collaborate with the brand on a capsule collection. Pharell and Chanel go together like yin and yang, like bread and butter. The two work so well together, in fact, that Lagerfeld’s successor Virginie Viard asked the multi-talent musician to front the brand’s SS20 eyewear campaign.
Photographed by Karim Sadli, the Grammy Award winner joins four over famous faces in a series of black and white portraits, which include musicians Angèle and Sébastien Tellier, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood actress Margaret Qualley and legendary French film star Isabelle Adjan. Williams and the gang are captured up close and personal for an accompanying film where each star discusses their connection to the esteemed house – all whilst donning a pair of killer Chanel shades. Each frame featured was picked to complement each star’s singular look and personality. We wonder what 10’s signature shape would be? We’re betting on a cat-eye.
