Save us the gimmicks, bring us clothes to swoon over. That’s been the consensus at the shows in New York, as brands repositioned their focus to what their customers really want to wear, over what’s going to get them clicks on the ‘gram.
Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta of Eckhaus Latta have always been interested in everydayness. They’ve spent the last decade dressing their extended community, mainly from the worlds or art and fashion, in a uniform of crafty-yet-intelligent staples. Their autumn/winter 2023 collection followed suit, as the duo sent out semi-sheer mohair tops and dresses, faux-fur vests with keyhole cut outs and pink corduroy trackies with poppers trailing the leg.
While the inclusion of Jon Gries (Greg from The White Lotus) certainty aided with the show’s buzz, the star power really lied in the wipe-clean organza shirt and dresses, the wide-shouldered overcoats, and the playful twinsets turned inside outside out to expose their seams – each worn with fuzzy boots and platform mules.
Skip the faff and get straight to making simply great clothing: that’s Eckhaus Latta’s winning formula, for ya’.
