What fun it must be to be inside Jeremy Scott’s head. He fixes upon an idea and lets his imagination run riot over it – always with a clever sense of humour. “I was very inspired by Picasso’s muses.” Wives, lovers and his daughter Paloma. “I wanted to bring to life a Picasso woman,” said the designer. From this high-culture starting point, Scott’s signature playfulness was out in full force.
Looking at the iconic Girl With the Mandolin painting, he took a guitar and made it into a dress for Kaia Gerber. Bella Hadid appeared as a harlequin in a fully beaded catsuit with integrated shoes. Cara Taylor wore a painting along with its frame. Gigi Hadid closed the show – white doves (“paloma” means dove in Spanish) nestling in her bridal dress.
Bullfights matadors and Spanish tiles “bring a vibrancy,” said the designer of his other motifs, all joyfully incorporated. He was also inspired by cubism Picasso ushered in and his abandonment of symmetry: ”so why not make shoulders different heights and play with volume and see where it takes you?” Why not indeed.
