Oh to go on a world tour dressed only in Gucci. As Elton John goes forth on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, his capsule collection with Gucci has arrived. A collaboration we are here for. Last night we were partying with Elton (we’re on first name basis now) in celebration, down at Dover Street Market and into the electrifying clash of his costume archive and Alessandro Michele’s Gucci. A usual Monday night for us. The 11 piece ‘Gucci Elton John’ capsule collection that was sneakily featured through the Spring/ Summer 2018 show is officially in the DSM building, metallic lightening bolts flying, patch-worked music notes, finely tuned, tailored, extravagant printed suit jackets. The Elton effect.
As said in his interview with Gucci.com, “I’m a huge fan of the amazing work Alessandro Michele has been doing since he took the helm at Gucci. His bold mix of colour, exuberance and eclecticism gave fashion a massive kick up the backside. I love its celebration of individuality. That same spirit reminded me of the insane enthusiasm I had for fashion, particularly in the first 30 years of my career… Opening up my costume archive and seeing how Alessandro has reinterpreted key looks for today’s world has unearthed an exhilarating rush of emotions. I can’t believe how sartorially crazy I was, particularly in the 70s! With fashion back then, I was like a big kid in a sweet shop. I couldn’t get enough, and kept trying newer and crazier looks.” The original looks by Bob Mackie and Annie Reavey also feature on display as part of the DSM installation. A shrine in celebration of Elton’s best lewks. The installation will be in place until Monday April 23, with the full capsule collection available from the Gucci space on the 2nd floor.
