Giorgio Armani: Ready-to-wear AW17

Fresh from dressing just about everyone at last night’s Oscars (including Best Supporting Actress winner, Viola Davis) the work never stops for Mr Armani who showed his namesake line in Milan this morning. Although, having said that, this collection wasn’t about gowns or frouf, rather the more humble trouser. They made up about 90% of the collection – some of which actually looked a bit like skirts – loose, their waistbands wrapped around the body, others cropped, with button cuffs, or sharply-cut, tuxedo-style, with a sparkling strip running up the side. With Giorgio (over the course of the whopper 80-odd looks) you can alway expect clothing for all occasions – elegant tailoring (this season rounded on the shoulders and cinched at the waist) to sportier jackets that fastened around the body with a drawstring and toggle, slouchy outerwear to those final intricate gowns. Because what’s Armani without a touch of glamour? But, as Mr Armani is so good at, it’s all pulled together with this fixation with rich fabrications – here coming through in those jewel-toned velvets, that incredible beading and embellishment, the silks, the sheer organza. And what better way to end our Milanese adventures than with a hefty hit of Italian luxury?
