Rick Owens undeniably goes his own way. He has his own aesthetic. You know – big, black, baggy. Even so, Mr Owens always has a few surprises up his sleeves. Or should we say his non-existent sleeves. He likes a vest, you see. And a little surprise is what we are calling this – the latest instalment of Rick Owens and Adidas’ always fruitful collaboration, adding three suitably sculptural silhouettes (if you go for that sort of thing) for AW16. First up, the Mastadon (based on the Adidas pro model) which is most certainly PRO, meaning that yes, it is possible to be professionally fashionable. They come in a veritable plethora of colourways, all with a dead beefy sole. Next there’s the Runner, elevated sky-high, suitable for the vertically challenged amongst us. Or just those men who enjoy a big fat platform. Finally, the new thigh-high ‘Ro Tech Runner Stretch Boot’ takes stretch to the next level, and we would suggest not running in these, but perhaps partaking in a little river fishing. It’s the latest in a line of well-judged collaborations from the sporty brand – just this week we saw a preview of newly appointed Calvin Klein creative director Raf Simons’ latest collaboration. They’re firing out big releases in big succession. Let’s see who takes the cake this August.
