Nicholas Ghesquière’s SS24 Louis Vuitton show centred itself around frothy, characterful clothes that exuded a carefree sense of fun without compromising on craft. Especially fun were the LV Split Cat-Eye sunglasses that many of Ghesquière’s models wore. Nothing like your nan’s kitschy winged shades, these featured a flat browline and a disruptive, semi-detached tinted lens – meaning the side edges of the lens floated out of the frame to reveal a sliver of space. From afar, that splicing wasn’t obvious – these were classic cat-eye sunnies with a distinctive, cyber-sport twist – but upon closer look, their novelty was revealed. Coming in cream and black and as well as a bright orange colourway that nods back to the sunset scenography of the runway, these shades are reared and ready to not only protect your peepers but also to make an instant impression on anyone who looks your way, if only for a moment. Featuring temples bedecked with gilded LV Circle signatures, as well as a disguised Monogram flower behind the lens and at the centre front of the face, there’s as much intricate detailing embedded into these sunspecs as the clothes they were paired with on the catwalk.
