At 10 it’s well known that we love a man in some Stone Island. Especially our Editorial Director Phoebe. Why? “I find it hard to find a man who can drink a pint faster than me,” she says. “And a Stone Island man usually can.” We also love wearing something we know no-one else is going to have. Which is good, because Stone Island’s SS17 “Hand Corrosion” collection basically ticks both of those boxes. Those familiar with the brand know that they are wizards when it comes to textile and fabric manipulation – remember their Liquid Reflective jacket, made from tiny shards of glass that reflect light? Like a wearable disco ball? Well, this time, experimentation continues – they are recreating their classics, dyed with special corrosive pastes to give each piece a unique, worn-in look. Essentially, a garment chemical peel. Fabulous. “This artisan process makes each garment unique and unrepeatable,” say the notes. The collection includes outerwear, knits, sweatshirts and bottoms. Something for everyone, basically. And you can watch the entire process in a special short film here. Don’t try this at home.
