Stephanie Phair Announced As BFC’s New Chair

BFCContrary to what the title may suggest, the British Fashion Council are not looking for new furniture, so don’t start leaving your Ikea jetsam outside their offices. This chair isn’t for sitting on, it’s the very esteemed position of the BFC’s Chair of the organisation, which has just been filled by Stephanie Phair. Currently Chief Strategy Officer for Farfetch, a role she will continue to act in once her new position is formalised on 5th July, Stephanie is a true digital fashion veteran.

Like so many good stories, her’s is one that began in New York, where she worked for American Vogue on new initiatives like the CFDA/Vogue Fashion fund (recently awarded to our own Molly Goddard), as well as the annual Met Gala. If that doesn’t already sound like the charge sheet of a veteran, upon moving to London Stephanie joined NET-A-PORTER as President of The Outnet.com, which she launched in 2009, while also sitting on the company’s Executive Board from 2009-15.

The point is Stephanie really knows what she’s doing. Which is just as well considering her role will focus on Governance, ensuring the BFC continues to adapt to a changing industry while delivering on its five strategic pillars of Reputation, Investment, Business, Digital & Innovation and Education. Many plates. After Dame Natalie Massenet stepped down from the position in December 2017 following a successful five year term, the mantle of rearing the next generation of design talent now rests in Stephanie’s capable hands. We wish her the very best of luck.
