Jacob Cohën by Matthew Adams Dolan: Ready-To-Wear SS24

Matthew Adams Dolan knows about denim. His latest offering for Jacob Cohën makes that clear, as he crafts a denim-centric collection awakening the allure that lies within classics. There’s an asymmetric one-shoulder dress that wraps around the body as if it were a shirt, creating a svelte silhouette. A denim shirt drapes open at the back like billowing curtains; this is repeated in an airy white cotton version. A bomber jacket dazzles with its ‘80s style pockets details and sexy chinching and is worn with panelled parachute jeans with a mini zip at the ankle.

The range harnesses “the seduction of a perfectly feminine summer,” according to the show notes, and Dolan certainly taps into an assertive delicacy, marked by modernity with seductive undertones. It’s not frilly or flashy, but it is sophisticated with a sartorial prestige only found in Italy.

There are cargo pants and denim vests, midi skirts with massive pockets, slouchy jeans, sporty shorts and maxi skirts, all in light and medium washes. For the breezier nights, there’s a cream-coloured summer blazer and a featherlight trench coat. A cropped, long sleeve, off-the-shoulder wrap top is sure to be the It-girls’ next obsession and a standout pair of wide leg jeans feature a wrap-around strip, a contemporary interpretation of like the skirt-over-trousers trend underlined by the understated elegance we’ve come to expect from Jacob Cohën.

Slipping tenderly into summer styles, soft but citrusy pops of pale lime dance through the blues of denim and the whites of ultra-light cotton. Everything is elevated by Italian craft and the kind of refinement that pours out of Milan, mixed with the confident ferocity often associated with a New York woman. Chic.
