Hermès: Menswear AW25

This season’s Hermès collection wasn’t just about smartening up, but piling on the layers, too. If menswear’s new tailoring age is upon us, creative director Véronique Nichanian is set on ensuring her wardrobe meets sophistication with comfort and an elegant sense of ease. Stuffy suiting isn’t in her vocabulary. Instead her double breasted jackets come with narrow trousers and ace boots, while midnight blue velvet suits with pointed lapels make for an exciting new addition to the brand’s menswear universe.

These are pieces designed to feel at home in, “To enter a garment as you would a house, to dress with the feeling of being welcomed”, as stated in the show notes. Throwing an oversized jacket over tailored togs, whether it was wipe-clean macs, leather duffles or stone grey, shearling overcoats, casualised the look. A feast of tactile textures, including cashmere, bouclé and teddy mohair, maximised the collection’s appeal. These were seriously great clothes, built to be wardrobe fixtures for years to come.
