Ten’s To Do: Flick Through The Pages Of Guess’s 40th Anniversary Tome

Despite the question mark central to its triangular emblem, there’s no confusing the brand behind the logo: Guess… of course. A globally lauded label responsible for some of fashion’s most famous imagery, this year Guess celebrates its 40th anniversary with the release of a collectable, casebound photobook – the fourth edition to be released by the Southern Californian company – under the encapsulating, apt title, A Fourth Decade of Guess Images.

Detailing the story of the four brothers who founded the iconic brand – Paul, Maurice, Armand and Georges Marciano – A Fourth Decade of Guess Images is a super-sexy retrospective commemorating the hard work, passion and creativity that garnered forty years of esteemed fashion. It also spotlights the brilliant minds and talents that have so successfully crafted a distinctive visual identity for Guess across 252 glossy pages of insider shots and text. 40 years since it made its debut with the launch of the 3-Zip Marilyn Jean in 1981, Guess, and the imagery associated with it, have held their grasp of Guess-obsessives and high street consumer’s alike. Guess co-founder and chief creative officer Paul Marciano – the brain behind the brand’s globally recognised campaigns – states, “I always thought a brand image, if done well, will survive the test of time and test of fashion trends.”

Celebrating Guess’ signature shades of red, the book not only has endless images for you to pore over, but quotes from contributors that narrate and describe the stories behind some of its most famous fashion images.

The new book will also pay homage to the legendary troupe of supermodels, muses and It-girls that have graced Guess campaigns over the years, including those whose careers have skyrocketed by doing so: Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer,Eva Herzigova and the iconic, late, great Anna Nicole Smith, to name a few. Homing in especially, on notable Guess muses between 2012 and 2021, images and quotes from Priyanka Chopra, Hailey Bieber, Camila Cabello, Jennifer Lopez, J Balvin and more are also featured. It’s only natural then, that the book – a must-have addition to any fashion fan’s coffee table – stars Gigi Hadid, former Guess Kids’ model and current Guess girl, as its svelte covergirl.

Brimming with insider perspectives on Guess’ illustrious 40 years, the eyes behind the images – Bryan Adams, Ellen von Unwerth, Raphael Mazzucco, Claudia & Ralf Pülmanns, Chen Man, Mégane Claire, David Bellemere, Tatiana Gerusova, Josh Ryan, Vicoolya & Saida, Nima Benati and Yasmine Kateb amongst others – are all honoured within. Marciano set out to recognise “their individual contribution in helping bring the Guess image to life and making it the iconic brand it has become today,” he says, adding, “I am so grateful to each and every one of them.”

All we can say is this: clear up some space on your coffee table, clear up some space in your schedule and make use of the winter weather by staying in and perusing some of the hottest visuals Guess has produced over the course of a glittering 40 years. Here’s to 40 more!
