For SS25, Berlin-based brand GmbH returned to its roots, showing as part of the German capital’s burgeoning fashion week that kicked off at the start of this week. Entitled Resistance Through Rituals, the 29-look collection addressed the worrying return of fascism that has been gradually creeping into European politics over the past few years.
Encouraging onlookers to recognise this political shift before it’s too late, designers Benjamin Huseby and Serhat Isik created garments that emulated the armour of dreamlike heroes and heroines, representing the need to fight back. Highlighting the deaths of refugees, mass arrests, police brutality and the continued flaunting of international law by various global powers in its show notes, GmbH reaffirmed the centrality of resistance, love and justice to its brand ethos.
Boxer shorts and wrap skirts incorporated themes of athleticism whilst broad-shouldered silhouettes nodded to the energy of resistance where the collection found its roots. Strappy tops and branded speedos kept the clothes in the GmbH’s signature grunge style, resulting in a collection infused with both style and greater meaning.
