The NBA playoffs may be tapering off, but at Fendi, the jump ball has only just entered the air. Sporty and sleek, Fendi’s new Active: Basketball Capsule is the ultimate fusion of high fashion and hoops. Swish, swish. Dedicated to the American born and bred sport, as part of its Summer Capsule 2023, a selection of coordinating b-ball tees, pinnie tanks, long shorts and accessories cut from technical, sweat-wicking cloth are dribbling onto the court.
Emblazoned on each piece of high-performance gear are Fendi Roma and FF logos, refigured in bold varsity lettering. The opulent athleisure also features Fendi Roma ribbed edging, and arrives all in black and grey as if for home and away play. Off-the-court clobber includes a lightweight, technical grey tracksuit and varsity bomber jacket ensemble with tonal FF logo pattern on the sleeves and sides, and contrasting black piping that mimics the seam lines of a basketball.
Fendi has also remixed its iconic Match trainer with a ‘ballin high top. Coming in classic black and cream or exclusive total-white crystal-embellished iterations, the revised version is a sneaker slam dunk. As for the accessories, the collection includes sponge socks and a wristbands and headband set, together with a black logo baseball cap and a mini basketball keychain.
Needless to say, you can’t shoot hoops without a buzzer-beating ball, so of course, the luxury label has included a slick black rubber basketball in the capsule. Created in collaboration with Spalding – the leading company in the manufacturing of sports balls – it arrives supplied with an embossed varsity logo, a ball cage and a branded webbed shoulder strap for ease on and off the court.
To cap off the collection, a transparent basketball hoop adorned by black metal O’lock chains and the same Fendi-fied varsity logos as the ready-to-wear offerings, draws the court to a close. When Fendi shoots, it scores.
Now available in selected boutiques around the world – as well as a slew of e-commerce platforms across Europe, the USA, the Middle East, Japan and China – the Fendi Active: Basketball Capsule hits up the shopping hubs with dedicated pop-ups and pop-ins featuring proprietary roundball courts.
