Carrie fanboys unite – this one is for you. It’s not like we needed anyone to declare the Baguette suitable for the boys, but it sure does feel good to have some just for ourselves. Enough of stealing from the girls – Fendi are introducing their most iconic piece of baggage into their menswear collection. Originally shown as part of the AW19 show in Milan, the men’s Baguette is a more streamlined version of its feminine counterpart. Launching this week exclusively at the Fendi Piazza pop-up on the second floor of Harrods, the piece is available in a selection of colours of their signature Selleria leather – mustard yellow, navy, black and two different metallic hues.
There’s three sizes to choose from. First on the menu, the large one is a hybrid between a cross-body and a messenger bag, somewhat practical and office-ready. The second is a classic size which we originally fell in love as seen in purple sequins and being burgled off the shoulder of Ms Bradshaw. Both of these bags can be worn multiple ways – across the body as well as a clutch and a bum bag. Fendi know we like things versatile. The third version is the baby Baguette – made as a pendant pouch which will fit all our necessities. Keys, ID, chewing gum and those few coins we have left once we splurge on this whole collection. Exclusively at Harrods, the bags will be available in a new print. Karl Kollage is a colourful, comic-inspired nylon fabric putting together a selection of the late Karl Lagerfeld’s sketches, notes and images, as curated by Silvia Venturini Fendi.
After the major comeback success of the Dior saddle bag and its menswear version, it was clear that this female-led market is finally realising the expansive potential of men’s fashion. Yes, boys have been wearing bags for decades (even before girls did) – it just happens that they are finally looking chic.
The exclusive Fendi men’s Baguettes will be available from the Harrods Fendi Piazza Pop-Up on the second floor until August 20th.
