Ib Kamara is exiting Off-White.
Announced this morning, Kamara is stepping down as the creative director of the luxury label, bringing his four-year tenure at the helm to a close.
The stylist and photographer took over the creative direction of the brand in 2022, just months after the death of founder Virgil Abloh.
Building on Abloh’s foundations, Kamara continued to blend streetwear and formalwear throughout his time at the brand, favouring collections that explored the tension between structure and fluidity. Much like the brand’s founder, Kamara threaded together a diverse range of influences, with collections looking to Miles Davis, New York City’s creative class and even outer space as their points of inspiration.
The shows were spectacles in their own right. His debut featured a performance choreographed by Nicolas Huchard, with dancers painted in electric blue and dressed in matching bodysuits. Another, AW24, saw the cast weave their way around a giant version of the board game Ludo, set against a backdrop of larger-than-life diamanté dice.
Tasked with steering the brand through a period of profound transition, Kamara carved out his own chapter in Off-White’s story, whilst ensuring he remained deeply connected to its roots.
The departure comes two years after LVMH sold its controlling stake in Off-White to brand management firm Bluestar Alliance.
No successor has yet been announced, and the label is not currently scheduled to present a show this incoming season.
