Eduardo Camavinga Is In A League Of His Own

Eduardo Camavinga doesn’t settle for average. Since joining Real Madrid in 2021 and making his debut for France’s national team in 2022, the footballer has earned a reputation as something of a chameleon on the pitch. Though most at home in central midfield, his ability to morph into a lethal defender or quick-footed force driving the ball forward has made him one of the most exciting players active today. And his dynamism doesn’t stop at the beautiful game. For the past few years, Camavinga has been establishing himself as a tastemaker in fashion too.

“My parents like to dress well,” Camavinga tells 10 on the set of his digital cover. “I’m African, so that’s part of the culture.” Born in Angola, the sports star moved to France when he was two, and subsequently made his way through various youth clubs where he started fine-tuning his natural football talent. As his career went from strength to strength and he joined the Spanish team he now calls home, Camavinga harnessed that innate interest in style to become the first-ever footballer to walk for Balenciaga. Sharing the catwalk with the likes of Kim Kardashian and Nicole Kidman, Camavinga donned a sharply cinched black suit for Demna’s second couture show in July 2022. “It was something I had never done before. When I was young, my mum was always telling me I was a model. So, when I got the opportunity to do it, my mum straight away said, ‘Yeah, you’re gonna do it.’ When mum says something, you know, you have to listen. So, I did it, and I really liked it. If I could do it again, I would.” It was a moment that generated serious momentum, appearing as a tangible litmus test for how the two worlds of sport and design are becoming increasingly intertwined.

Since then, Camavinga has continued to refine his personal style. “I would say class,” he says of the tone of his looks today, as his wardrobe moves away from brands rooted in hype to brands with distinguished longevity. Last year, a pre-match ‘fit featured an oversized Togo HAC Birkin 40 from Hermès, whilst his recent Instagram posts are peppered with the likes of a handheld Louis Vuitton travel bag and mini quilted handbag from Chanel which he’s styled hanging from the waistband of some tailored trousers. “Since I was young, I was always looking at my parents. They are always looking fresh, looking good,” he says, explaining how his approach to fashion draws more from within than looking at what anyone else is wearing. “I think that’s important to show your personality.” Here, he teams up with stylist Dan May and photographer Paul McClean to do just that. All eyes on Camavinga.
