Loewe: Ready-To-Wear SS27

Outdoorsy, preppy, with a zing of optimistic colour, and plenty of crafty detailing; creative directors Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough are honing their Loewe look.

Relatability, wearability and desirability were their buzz words for a collection that had plenty of flair lavished on looks that could slot into your real life. Trench coats with holographic resin collars, twisted polo tops, easy chinos, techy-looking wind cheaters, leather cagoules, sporty wrap-around sunglasses and fleeces all paid homage, to an active, everyday wardrobe. The designers American heritage informed chiffon dresses modelled on layered-up basket ball jerseys, their hems heavy with beads. It was elevated but relatable, which is just what the designers were aiming for.

“What we’re putting forward here is a proposition for dressing. How does this new Loewe language become a wardrobe? We’re taking the vision, the craft, and injecting a reality and character,” they said in their show notes.

That mix of craft and reality is the expression of another of their Loewe themes. This Spanish leather house is 170 years old, the artisanship at the house is exceptional, but by applying it to utterly modern clothes, that heritage becomes tangible, touchable and very wearable indeed. They’re bringing the past into now.  “It’s the idea of the old world and the new world coming together,” said Hernandez.
