One word: Poignant. This was a supercharged emotional golden moment that held us spellbound in the shadow of the glittering Eiffel Tower. Rumours have swirled that after ten years Anthony Vaccarello is exiting Saint Laurent but it is yet to be confirmed. His quote in the show notes perhaps said it all, “A light shines all the more brightly because we know it cannot be held. What passes sometimes leaves more light than what remains.”
And so we were blinded by the light and a collection of solid gold looks but all as light as a feather, crinkly, crunchy, sheer, organza, lace and a final passage of staggeringly romantic black chiffon gowns. Invest in a trench coat, a pencil skirt a safari jacket anything from this collection and it will be forever relevant, a final great gift from Vaccarello. And we were, let’s face it, enchanted by the set with the three swaggering gold chandeliers seemingly suspended in mid air. It was simply powerful as we considered the Shakespeare sonnet about delivered as the models walked. Wall to wall friends of the house, all the legends were here to see him off. Charlotte Gainsbourg sang and everyone stood to applaud the man who has added in so much to the world of YSL.
