I’m wearing Ada Saddle ear gauges with Ravi Hoop earrings. The Ada Saddles on both sides of my ears are basically there to hold my stretched lobes in place. The Ravi hoops are circular earrings that are made up of mini spheres. I gravitate towards warmer tones with jewellery so both pieces are made out of brass.
I bought both pieces from the same store, Tribu in Camden, but on separate occasions. It’s usually when I’m passing by the area when I visit the shop, which isn’t often, so when I am purchasing from there it’s most likely pieces that end up feeling special to me.
Choosing to have stretched ear lobes can be quite a bold move, especially when you progress in size. I’ve always known that I would love to own gauges and earrings that are intricate and unique regardless of what I wear. These two pieces of jewellery are basically what younger me always wanted.
They are my favourite pieces because they contribute to me feeling grounded, especially since they remind me of the sun and moon. I always thought combining these two together would feel like ‘too much’ and that alone meant I held on to the Ravi hoop earrings for about two years before I started wearing them. Without them, I tend to feel a little bare now. I’m quite attached to them, so they are worn with most outfits – I don’t think they cause any limitations when wearing something casual or more elevated.
My dream jewellery would ideally be something where I’d be able to contribute to the design of my gauges, so there would be a layered meaning connected to me.
