Introducing 10 Men Issue 62 – BIRTHDAY, EVOLVE, TRANSFORMATION – out September 18.
In this year of unprecedented change, fashion, beauty and creativity are transforming at such speeds against a backdrop of political and social upheaval. Old certainties, structures and systems are crumbling. New ones are emerging. The whole industry is undergoing a massive transformation.
Celebrating 10’s silver anniversary, our big 25 birthday celebrations kick off with Kai-Isaiah Jamal, who wears Louis Vuitton.
Poet, model, activist and now musician, Jamal is a living study in boundlessness – a person moving fluidly between identities and expressions, refusing to settle into any one shape or space.
As Jamal releases their first tracks under the name Kissin’ Teef, Emily Phillips sits down with the multi-hyphenate to discuss their journey as a wordsmith. Read here.

In this year of unprecedented change, fashion, beauty and creativity are transforming at such speeds against a backdrop of political and social upheaval. Old certainties, structures and systems are crumbling. New ones are emerging. The whole industry is undergoing a massive transformation.
So, with transformation being the focus of our issue, I felt most compelled to have a discussion about the unjust marginalisation and victimisation of the trans community.
What I felt strongly about was creating a platform to encourage a strong sense of community. I wanted to give a powerful and positive space to trans people in an era where they are subject to fear and uncertainty. We endeavour to explore the diversity, creativity, beauty and talent of this community with a special portrait portfolio shot by the legendary Derek Ridgers and accompanied by Max Rossi’s essay, which discusses how the culture war on the trans community affects everyone.
The LGBTQ+ community is celebrated throughout the issue. On the fashion pages, Kai-Isaiah Jamal, the celebrated poet and model, poses for a portfolio and talks about their move into music, while the stylist and designer Kyle De’Volle writes beautifully about a tumultuous decade that transformed him into the person he is now.
Change is the only certainty in life, and this issue is full of inspiring stories of personal transformation. Jason Okundaye details the radical effect his embrace of exercise has had on his mind and body and the brilliant Max Blagg talks about how the death of his beloved mother saw him turn to reckless hedonism.
We also give space to creatives who are crafting the conversations that matter now. The inspirational Nasir Mazhar and his Fantastic Toiles collective talk about how they are reinventing retail to create a lifeline for independent designers. He’s the kind of leader we need in fashion – someone who comes up with creative and powerful solutions that benefit everyone.
The power of community has always been at the heart of what Willy Chavarria does. One of the most important voices in fashion, his Paris show provided the most eloquent, moving and powerful comments on the demonisation of vulnerable immigrant communities that I have ever seen. In this issue, he gives us a portfolio that celebrates the amazing women who influence his world.
As we celebrate 25 years of 10 and 23 years of 10 Men, I find myself taking more and more inspiration from creatives who have crafted long careers, people who have survived and thrived in a time of constant change without losing a sense of themselves.
In the issue, we talk to and shoot the brilliant Casey Spooner, who has been making music and art for more than two decades. Also, the dynamic duo that is DSquared2 celebrate their 30-year anniversary.
The success of Dean and Dan Caten is truly inspiring. Interviewed by Anders Christian Madsen, the piece documents their journey from being twin gay boys living just outside Toronto, faced with prejudice and hate, to their prolific rise. In an industry that isn’t easy to conquer, they have done it with humility, kindness, love and a sense of fun!
Giorgio Armani has also conquered. In one of his final interviews, the fashion legend talks about how he has stayed ahead of the curve without diluting his distinctive style. “I’ve consistently observed the world around me, remaining sensitive to shifts in society and, at times, even anticipating them,” he told us. But what chimed with me the most about his interview was his optimism. After a half century of taste-making, he still imagined new worlds: “The future is a blank page full of stories waiting to be told and we can always write new and better ones.” This issue celebrates new stories and better futures. I hope you enjoy every step of our journey.
