Sportmax put a woman in motion at the heart of the collection, sending out dynamic pieces that combined practicality and purpose with great sense of style. Oversized suiting, swashbuckling thigh boots and swathes of lavishly fringed scarves were the focus of a collection that was rooted in cool, contemporary dress codes. Sleek, draped jersey dresses, tonal tailoring in black grey, bitter chocolate and navy and plenty of superb floor sweeping coats made for a strong showing.
There was plenty of craft on display and lots of experimentation with fabric and technique in keeping with the heritage of the brand which was launched in 1969 by the Max Mara Group to give a creative response to contemporary dress.
A revival of Sportmax’s signature doublé wool was used for tailoring, whilst fully-fashioned knit co-ords were a softer alternative to traditional suiting. The finale looks were stand out with coats in a tufted jacquard which looked as plush as fur, but was shaved with the pattern of crocodile skin.
