For Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta, letting go was at the heart of their SS25 collection. Presented as a dinner where the guests themselves were the show, it was all about intimacy and not being precious about things – letting go of control. This meant guests attended wearing pieces from the new collection, styled in their own personal way, rather than having models strut down a runway.
One standout design was the Hugging Polo, which is created by cutting out the front panel of one shirt and the back panel of another, then slapping them together to create one, overlayed top. These came in simple cotton jersey or in an airy mohair knit. Great for interesting styling during the balmy summer months. Other key pieces included long knit tops layered over contrasting knit skirts and cable knit jumpers over loosely bunched up blazers. The edgy jeans Eckhaus Latta is known for were ridged with vertical seams, while dresses were studded and trousers were baggy with paper bag waists.
While the show was rather free flowing and unbridled, the lookbook, on the other hand, was more controlled, with styling by the brand and a cast of models modelling the clothes as opposed to ‘real’ people. Together, the presentations created a curious juxtaposition, investigating the perfectionism of being a designer, and the freedom of fashion as a form of self expression.
