Dries Van Noten knows how to make an entrance. As his AW24 collection commenced, model after model cascaded down the runway with a unique and uniform hairstyle. One that naturally shielded her face, and enhanced her mystique. Beware, though! She was a woman who dared to cut her own fringe! Basing his collection around that, and even naming the collection She Dares to Cut Her Own Fringe, Dries Van Noten highlighted the power of women.
Beginning with smoothly sculpted outerwear, there was then a mixture of textural baby pink coats, deliberately deconstructed jersey sweatshirts and cropped and bright orange satin puffers that came out. These were worn with elongated, flowy trousers, either wide-leg or narrow, that were styled through a juxtaposition of stiff and soft structures. Everything became a bit more playful after that, but comfort remained key. Think luxe jumpers that looked like they’d been made out of Christmas tinsel, but of course, were actually sequin imbued knits.
Evening-wear showcased glittery beaded coats worn with matching Bermuda shorts, faux fur scarfs that extend into single sleeves for a dramatic flair, and slinky, skin tight dresses.
Van Noten left viewers with just one, VIQ (that’s very important question). Should they all go and cut their own fringe too? They certainly felt inclined.
