It’s that time of year again, where we get to witness the hottest young designers making their way out of the classrooms and onto the catwalks. With the Univerisity of Westminster BA showcase taking place this past weekend at digital London Fashion Week, we’ve rounded up five graduating menswear designers that you should be keeping an eye on.
Everrett Bullen
Up first is Everrett Bullen, who’s re-thinking a typical idea of sexiness with his collection Winter Cruise. “We know how to dress for a summer cruise, but how do we dress for a very different kind of cruising in the harsh outdoors? How do we make sex outdoors feel luxurious while fulfilling our needs?” If you’re up for a shag in some ace clobber, look no further than Bullen’s “straight is great” jumper.
Molly Sellars
It’s been a while since we could attend our beloved festivals and it doesn’t seem likely to be happening any time soon. But when we finally get back to Worthy Farm, Molly Sellars could be of assistance. Think a tent fabric jacket becoming a hammock and sleeping bag trousers transforming into a quilt, ready to hit the sack with, all while looking as stylish as can be. Props to you, Miss Molly Sellars – see you at Glasto!
Caitlin Yates
Next up is Caitlin Yates, who you may already know by her wearable Google Maps surveillance scenes. But today it’s about all things Cotswold Luvvies – Yates’ graduate collection which comes in full force with eight dangerously cool looks. Each piece was created using found materials, from makeup wipes and up-cycled denim to pub memorabilia and Wetherspoons carpets – all designed to bring awareness to the rural poverty issues within the Cotswolds.
Toby Vernon
An ode to craftsmanship through-and-through, we’re in awe of Toby Vernon’s suit jacket with incredibly beautiful Victorian beadwork engineered into the back. This is just one example as to why his collection, Return to Order, calls for a celebration, a celebration of craftsmanship to be exact – take a look for yourself.
Will Bond
Will Bond already has foot in the big ol’ fashion door, with collaborations with Stefan Cooke and Supriya Lele already under his belt. The designer’s graduate collection shows not only the designer’s love of ballet, but also his admiration for strong graphic elements and English folk transformed into seven looks ready to hit the catwalk, or the woods.
