If you close your eyes and take a minute to imagine the perfect partywear, what springs to mind? Was it an eclectic rush of sequins, velvet, neon hues, camos and leopard prints? Well if that all sounds like a bit of alright, you’re in for a treat with the Topshop x Michael Halpern collection.
Aptly known as the modern-day ‘doyen of disco-ready dressing’, the clothes Halpern designs for his eponymous brand are the kind of pieces that make you want to get up and dance. And the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree with the American, Fashion Award-winning designer’s Topshop collection. The same ecstatic energy of the 1970s aesthetic, from the glory days (or should I say nights?) of Studio 54 flows throughout. Whether you choose to channel Bianca Jagger, Debbie Harry or Tina Turner in the plunging necklines, draped batwing sleeves, crystal encrusted fishnets or sequin jumpsuits offered in the 28 piece collection, it’s really up to you. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Michael; especially at such an exciting time in his career. Our capsule embodies the disco spirit and signature feminine silhouettes he is renowned for,” says Anthony Cuthbertson, Topshop and Topman’s global design director.
“I want the whole world to feel as glam as possible, and this type of collaboration is a fantastic way to accomplish that,” adds Halpern. “I think it’s fabulous that as a younger brand we’re able to work with Topshop, making the type of clothing we do for the main Halpern collection in an accessible way so more people can really feel the glamour,” he explains. Launching today, with a campaign photographed by Eloise Parry and styled by Patti Wilson, watch favourites Aaliyah Hydes and Subah Koj giving the pieces a twirl after-hours at a funfair, in a video by Steve Nielson. All you really need now is an excuse to dress up!
Topshop x Halpern is available online and in selected stores.
