Five Films To Look Forward To At Sundance London

You would be forgiven for thinking that the Sundance Film Festival takes place in Utah. Because it does. But, as of today, Sundance are setting up shop in London, showing a special selection of films in the capital – a sort of mini festival. And, in good news for us, it is but a mere hop, skip and a jump from Ten HQ – namely: Shaftesbury Avenue’s Picturehouse Central. Which is, FYI, about 400 yards away and the furthest these legs will ever walk. And we’ll probably still get an uber. So, in anticipation, here’s five films to keep your eyes on – from paranormal house guests to a woman who takes on the persona of a dog. Woof.

A Ghost Story

This one pretty much does what it says on the tin – and, if there were any doubts concerning the films subject matter, this picture of somebody wearing a large bed sheet with eyeholes cut out should lay them to rest. But this isn’t your typical spooky – the trailer looks quite… happy? It’s closing the festival, and you know what they say about saving the best until last. Well, that.

GhostStory

Bitch

We see a lot of ourselves in this one: “a tale of a woman who snaps under crushing life pressures and assumes the psyche of a vicious dog”. Very us. We’d be lying if we said this was the first time we’d heard about this – it’s actually quite common among us fashion types. Did you really think Raf brought back those collars because he thought they were cute? Please. This one gets the nod on a pure intrigue basis.

The Big Sick

The Big Sick is the title of Judd Apatow’s latest – him of 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked up – involving an exploration of what it means to be a Pakistani living in the US. Which, apparently, involves the awkwardness of arranged marriages and the pitfalls of dating a white girl. And we’re guessing many other things too. Trailer made us laugh, which is always a good sign. Not sure what the title has to do with proceedings, whether it’s real or metaphorical vomit but… well, you’ll just have to go see it, won’t you?

Icarus

Brian Fogel (who stars and directs) uncovers the truth about drug taking in sports. We know what you’re thinking – sports may not technically be of much interest to the inhabitants of Ten Towers, but the combination of narcotics and large, sweaty men sounds quite up our street, actually. Plus, we’re hoping we might be able to pick up some useful tips on how to beat a urine test.

Beatriz at Dinner

Are you one of those sick people who takes pleasure in awkward situations? This is probably a suitable film for you – Chloë Sevigny’s teaming up with Salma Hayek in a dark comedy about a Mexican holistic healer who inadvertently finds herself in the company of rich, successful racists. Which sounds quite dark, and possibly the beginning of a fairly terrifying horror movie, but this is actually a comedy. One of those dark ones. And, being as we are legitimately, restraining order-ly obsessed with both Chloë and Salma, it looks like a banger.
