Valentino: Ready-to-wear AW16

Russian ballet meets the New York Ballet, meets more ballet. Those were the inspirations – or maybe it’s actually just one inspiration- for Valentino’s autumn/winter 2016 show, a delicate array of slipper-pink tulle, jerseys and soft leather shoes with all the ease and graceful poise of a prima ballerina. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli also offered practical everyday stuff – great swaggering pea-coats, crunchy knit sweaters, even lug-soled biker boots. Not very Giselle those, but nevertheless quite contemporary, modern and very appealing indeed. The mix of the practical and the precious was where this show found its strength. And how it will trickle down into many women’s wardrobes.
