Suketdhir wins the 2016 Menswear Woolmark Prize

Suketdhir-Models

Wool’s good, isn’t it? I, for one, would love to be wrapped in a blanket of the stuff right now. The office is currently at -30 degrees. And who is more of a “global authority” (their words) on the stuff than Woolmark? Hence why they run a prize every year to “identify future design stars and showcase new and captivating interpretations of Merino wool through their collections.” And yesterday, at Pitti Uomo, the menswear winner was announced as Indian designer Suketdhir, who fuses national dress with modern western tailoring. Managing Director of The Woolmark Company, explained: “What Suketdhir designs is romantic, and that’s very appealing in fashion, and certainly was to the judging panel. All of the designers will no doubt go on to great commercial success in all parts of the world, but we can only name one winner, and today romance won.” With last year’s winner being NY-wunderkinds Public School, expect big things…

The runners up:

USA: SIKI IM
Europe: Jonathan Christopher
British Isles: Agi & Sam
Asia: Munsoo Kwon
Australia: P. Johnson
