Victoria, Victoria Beckham: Resort 2018

O Victoria, Victoria! Wherefore art thou Victoria. We’d like to officially declare our love for VB. Again. And, if needs be, scale a balcony and shout it from the rooftops. Which, coming from us, is really saying something – we’re not exactly the scaling types see, more the, take-the-lift-and-don’t-get-too-close-to-the-edge types. We do gag for a bit of sparkle though, and Victoria has indulged, nay spoiled us, with her latest Victoria, Victoria Beckham Resort 2018 collection, which features no fewer than four sequinned looks. You really are too good to us Mrs. B. With this in mind, there was a distinctly seventies feel to the collection; oversized zig-zag striped shirts paired with loose fitting trousers that wouldn’t have looked out of place at Woodstock, or a commune in Marrakech. This was all about the separates – and brightly coloured ones at that, which makes sense given the collection was influenced by the work of American painter Ellsworth Kelly. A rich mustard yellow leather shearling jacket, caramel knits and sky blue turtle necks – the latter a recurring shade throughout – were evidence of how this line has developed since it’s monochrome inception back in 2012. Looks felt dynamic and fluid, there was elegance but it felt slightly off-kilter, something Victoria alluded to herself, “We looked at images from the Seventies Disco scene — really old school glamour — so there are lots of high shine materials and coloured sequins in saturated colours; done in an elegant way that’s kind of strange…a good strange.” We’d like to think you could say the same of us.
