Victoria Beckham: Pre-Fall 2018

We are great believer in the mythical power of crystals. Especially when said crystal is big, shiny and not actually a crystal at all, but a diamond. Same thing. Victoria Beckham likes crystals too – using them as part of a pre-show ritual and now, to augment those fashions themselves, as evidenced by this here pre-fall collection. Here, Ms Beckham deploys them as mystical pendants and elegant necklaces; thimblefuls of colour that complement and contrast with the pastel hues of the collection, sometimes conspicuous sometimes camouflaged, but always pleasing on the eye. The same can be said of the rest of the collection, really. There’s a typical VB precision to it, it’s neat and chic without feeling, in any way, plain. Find here boxy outerwear – large-lapelled trenches and overcoats, stiff-shouldered blazers and wide-legged trousers interspersed with more overtly feminine looks – skirts cinched at the waist, patterned fabrics and flowing dresses, all accompanied by the unerring elegance of the turtle-neck sweater, which peeks out beneath outwear or atop of skirting. There’s something about it that whiffs vaguely of the 1970s, a combination of the exaggerated collars and Paisley prints – but our favourite part? That bubblegum pink trouser shirt pairing in suede, tied at the waist and paired with a body-hugging burgundy turtle-neck. It’s edible.
