Versace: Menswear AW17

Meet Versace’s freedom fighters. Because Donatella said this, her AW17 menswear collection, was about, “a tribe of people, that has different ideas, beliefs and an opinions… but they love freedom, and they fight for what they want.” What, then, does a Versace freedom fighter wear? Well, in this case, fashion. With a capital F. I mean, would you expect anything less? Here, there was a sort of musing on the mac jacket, cinched at the waist, in classic navy and camel, or in more racy PVC. And lords knows we love a wipe down fabric. There were moments of pattern and print, too – lumberjack check, blazers with 90s baroque-style house prints that crept up the hemline, or the Versace logo, on the calf of trousers, a nod to sportswear branding. Sophia loved the urban feel – especially the outerwear puffers, that, when cinched with a belt gave an almost feminine, hourglass figure. That feel also came through in the chunky trainers, rolled-up printed jeans, the caps or and hoodies. And alongside that, tailoring, which, can we say has a touch of the Patrick Bateman’s about it? A sort of loose, nineties cut, worn with a bright red polo-neck beneath. And, combined here with long hair that sort of straddled across the face. Said look cannot be achieved, as we thought it might by dunking one’s head in a sink of water. We’ve already tried. Donatella – it’s always a pleasure.
