We’d all like to be the Valentino man. He’s suave and sophisticated in a perfectly cut wool and silk suit, as dapper as his namesake Valentino Garavani, but probably a bit less tan. He’s sporty in those slick Valentino trainers, bomber jackets and techno-fabrics. And he’s well-traveled, as evidenced by the globe-trotting inspirations played out over the Valentino catwalk season after season. This time, for spring/summer 2017, there was a mood of Americana – blue jeans, soaring eagles, all the symbols of a road trip across the good ol’ USA, and a healthy splodge of Valentino’s signature camo. Oh, did we mention the Valentino guy is obviously, and incredibly, wealthy? Because Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli translate Valentino’s haute couture heritage into exquisitely-crafted clothes for their men. Think “homme couture” rather than haute couture, and regardless of how rough and ready the inspiration may be. Suits vous, homme.
