Sat here in freezing London, knowing full well that these tundra-like conditions will probably continue for at least another month, Tommy Hilfiger’s latest TommyXGigi collaborative collection provides a chink in the clouds, a tantalising reminder that summer is on the horizon, albeit a very distant one. If you look hard enough, you can hear those cicadas and catch a faint whiff of that salty ocean breeze, then again, that could just be the vitamin D deficiency talking… This most recent collab, Gigi’s second with Tommy H, embraces everything we know and love about the Golden State fused with Hilfiger’s signature East Coast style. High waisted jeans adorned with badges paying homage to the ‘Summer of Love’ accompanied a host of bomber jackets and cropped sweaters that just scream Americana. Having spent her youth galavanting around Santa Monica Pier with the rest of the Hadid clan, Gigi’s inspiration for her newest collection was clear, “Maybe it’s boyfriend jeans, or an oversize shirt you borrowed from your uncle and chopped into a crop top. The idea was that it could have been made with family and friends.” she says of the collection. Joining Gigi on the runway were a bevy of her closest sun kissed friends; Joan Smalls, Sara Sampaio, Devon Windsor, and of course, lil sis Bella, all of whom were jetted in to Tommyland via TommyAir. Gigi herself was last seen being whisked away in Gaga’s white Rolls Royce, let’s hope she’s taking a few days of much needed recovery time following her Super Bowl antics.
