The Olsen twins, carrying their Venti-sized coffee cups around New York, is an image ingrained into 21st century pop culture. So, it proved fitting that for The Row’s debut on the Paris schedule, and first physical show in over two years, the twins greeted guests with delicious cappuccinos with crystallised sugar sticks. Chic, no?
It’s the understated elegance of The Row that has made the brand a hit for so many women globally. Impeccably made, and done so through a whisper, not a shout, much of the brand’s appeal comes down to the fact that Mary-Kate and Ashley are carving out a wardrobe for themselves. They know what they like, and what they like, they do pretty darn well.
A move to fashion’s capital seemed to encourage the twosome to push the envelope. Their beautifully-cut trousers and jackets, still in muted hues, came worn with cashmere jumpers that had elongated sleeves which trailed across the floor. There were also shirts with clownish, seventies collars, overcoats worn back-to-front as dresses and a giant woolly blanket fashioned into an evening gown. Those, and pillbox hats, trainers and fuzzy muffs, made a pretty impressive new shopping list for the brand’s loyal clientele.
