Aside from the clothes, the first thing you remember from a legendary fashion show is its soundtrack. Inside 10 Magazine Issue 74, we spotlight 10 musicians and sound engineers who are adept in masterminding catwalk scores that have gone on to become certified fashion moments in their own right. Next up, Michel Gaubert.
A man who needs no introduction, Gaubert is a maestro of the show soundtrack. He has spent the last two decades as the go-to sound engineer of the industry’s biggest shows for Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton. He’s also lent his exquisite musical stylings to the likes of Willy Chavarria and Sacai.

What does music bring to a fashion show?
It is the missing link.

It is different every time but the most important is that the music is part of the experience.

Many different ways.

Probably movie soundtracks.
What makes the perfect finale track?
The track that sums up the emotions you felt during the show.
What musical fashion show moments stand out for you?
The opening when everyone starts focusing.
What music genres define you?
All of them. It is the way I put them together that is personal.
What’s one fashion show you wish you’d created the soundtrack for?
Thierry Mugler’s 20th anniversary show [in 1995].
Which designer has the best musical taste?
I don’t divulge personal feelings.
If you could only save three records from your collection, which would you choose?
That cannot happen to me.
