The Look: Jil Sander AW16

AW16M-JilSander-032

I’ve always wished I had curly hair. Not a full on noodle party, just the kind of hair that has permanent texture. The texture that I am begrudgingly forced to create each and every morning with endless gallons of pastes, creams, sprays and oils. All to just look naturally tousled. Without this mind numbing morning ritual from hell, I look like a Lego man. A poker straight, fluffy helmut is not acceptable. I know this because if I leave the house with said lego helmut, people stare. They wonder why I have chosen to look like Kelly Osbourne circa 2005. But I did not choose to look like Kelly. “Rocking a Kelly O’ rock chick bowl cut is nothing to be ashamed of”, says Jack. Both of us realising as he was saying it that he in fact is rocking one himself. Unfortunately, my natural hair doesn’t suit me as well as Jack’s suits him. The advantages of having a beautiful head of curls is endless. Just ask Natalie Dembinska, the proud owner of naturally coiled locks. They indicate, she boasts, a bouncy and bubbly personality. They show the world that you’re a fun loving gal. They also act as a natural buffer, apparently. Natalie’s hair is so bouncy that she does not require a pillow, she tells me. It’s also extremely low maintenance. Her routine? “Wash and go”. Whether you are naturally or artificially kinked, it’s clear a wavy mane is the key to a happy life. If you don’t believe me, just have a look at the Jil Sander show, where the majority of the models voluminously bounced down the catwalk, perfectly contrasting with the clean, utilitarian lines of the collection.
