Hot on the heels of Dior & I, the documentary following Raf Simons as he designed his first couture collection for Dior comes, The Artist is Absent: A Short Film on Martin Margiela produced by YOOX Group and directed by Alison Chernick, showing at the Tribeca Film Festival this week. Naturally, being a documentary on Martin Margiela, the elusive designer himself does not make an appearance, but the film is filled with a veritable, who’s who of talking fashion heads, from Suzy Menkes to Jean Paul Gaultier and Raf Simons, all heaping praise on the original ‘invisible’ man.
