We’ve always admired people who can pull off a hat. We can’t. We’ve tried, believe us, but somehow, no matter the hat we try always end up looking more beast than beauty. Well, they do say that hats can be transformative, and they certainly do seem to be so in our case. Either that or our vision is more fucked than we realised. On other people though, they are a thing of beauty. Particularly the ones designed by Stephen Jones. Which is probably why we’re rather ridiculously excited by the news that he is releasing a book. A monograph, even. 208 pages of beautiful creations that we can gaze at rather than wear, and with a foreword by our favourite ginger, Grace Coddington no less. Souvenirs is much more than just hats though. To quote Stephen, it, ““is a collection of photos, sketches, and ephemera that have survived the ravages of time in the primordial postmodern soup of my brain, from which hats spring on a daily basis”. We imagine flicking through this must be quite like John Cusack being stuck in John Malkovich’s head. Frightening yet oddly compelling. In better news, can there be better news? Yes there can. Stephen will be at Dover Street Market in London today, between the hours of four in the afternoon and seven in the evening, signing his book. Personally. What are you waiting for? Run.
Souvenirs by Susannah Frankel and Stephen Jones, foreword by Grace Coddington is published by Rizzoli, New York, priced £95
