With the start of spring comes the latest instalment in Eye/Loewe/Nature, a carefree collection for SS22 that puts mother nature first. Modelled by French actor Stéphane Bak, best known for his roles in The French Dispatch, Elle, and Team Spirit, the whole project exudes the idea of hedonism en plein air.
Throughout, the essence of the great outdoors is translated into technical fabrics, functional, loose volumes and straightforward silhouettes. Carrying forward Loewe staples, the collection includes parkas, parachute blousons and trousers, fleece anoraks and windbreakers. There are also multi-pocket slacks, a T-shirt and a crewneck jumper, making a wardrobe that embodies the spirit of wanderlust.
A crafty playfulness pervades in the patchwork, juxtaposing multi-fabric geometrics and a motley of electric hues – think contrast taping on cargos, joyful jacquard double squares on jumpers, all-over patterns and laser printed logos.
Plus, the colour that covered the Parisian catwalks last month, a fiery fuschia, comes to the fore, weaving its way into bum bags, Bermuda shorts and skin-tight sweaters. Further fluorescents charged with the electricity of clubwear and an air of adventure are on the same vivacious wavelength as Loewe’s SS22 menswear collection.
As always, creative director Jonathan Anderson took to designing with an environmentally focused cap snugly situated atop his head. The pragmatic pieces consist of upcycled attire made from parachutes, military gear, tents and Loewe T-shirts from previous seasons alongside deadstock denim and recycled textiles. There’s even bio-based buttons and cords, recycled polyester and recycled leather labels made using a low impact tanning process. But what’s really special is how for the second year running, every single product sold will come paired with a €15 donation to wildlife preservation non-profit A CASA for Birds in a bid to restore natural habitats for endangered species.
Whether you’re a homebody or hungering for your usual adventurous antics, it’s time to press play on your travel plans and get globe-trotting. But don’t forget to do it in Loewe.
