There’s a chill in the air, which means it’s time for a stomper that can handle all manner of terrains – from snow-dusted pavements to the sticky dancefloors of a sweat-drenched rave. A new offering from New York-based Proenza Schouler and function-first footwear brand Sorel serves just this purpose: a revamped Caribou Mule that combines quality leather craftsmanship with a chunky silhouette that feels at once utilitarian and elegant.
Making its debut on the Proenza Schouler SS25 catwalk during NYFW, the collab reinvents the classic mule with a new future-facing silhouette that nods to creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez’s polished design language without compromising on the functionality that has made Sorel a staple in high-end outdoor wear since 1962. “It tells a story for both brands, and that’s ultimately what it’s all about,” says McCollough and Hernandez, who founded Proenza Schouler in 2002.
Crafted in a waterproof leather and featuring a vulcanised rubber shell, the Sorel x Proenza Schouler Caribou Mule is made for city stomping – think hopping across puddles on the way into the New York Subway, navigating a bustling Christmas market in Berlin’s Kreuzberg or wading through the sludgy grass of London’s Hyde Park. Proenza Schouler’s signature contrast stitching and a custom logo tab gives the model extra oomph, having already been spotted on the feet of Bella Hadid. Coming in three colourways – black, ecru and yellow – the new release is set to be a go-to of your winter wardrobe rotation.
