Sophia’s Chanel Cuba Photo Diary

There’s no Snapchat in Cuba. Something about the government and the internet or something. Sophia is bereft. But fear not loyal readers, our ever-fearless Editrix-in-Chief has found another way for us to follow her adventures, providing a blow-by-blow account of yesterday’s Chanel extravaganza in Havana through the medium of Instagram. Just as good, we say. And it’s all right here. See the many wonderous things that have accosted her eyes in the Caribbean locale – all without leaving the spot you are standing it. How do you say fabulous in Spanish?

The Show

“The most amazing car ride to the show – lime green 50’s car, stunning Cuban music blaring from the radio – magical moments.”

“These were the scenes around the Chanel show last night. Crowds filled every building, crowded onto all the balconies that surrounded the the central colonnade which was transformed into the most spectacular show venue! As we sat on benches beneath the canopy of the trees that flanked either side of the catwalk and at one point that actually helped protect us from the sudden down pour just as the show was about to start, became the perfect framework for the collection. As Stella Tennant opened in an exquisitely tailored suit inspired by the city’s hay day with its shrunken cream jacket and oversized trousers it became apparent how much Karl had been influenced and inspired by Havana. The girls strolled care free with this exquisite colonial architecture as their backdrop in sequinned tiny dresses in the most vivid yellows and turquoise which mimicked the palette of the buildings around the city and floated in organza gowns as they brushed past us evoking and channelling total Hollywood glamor of the 30’s. It ended with the girls filling the catwalk dancing behind a local dance group in true celebration of one of my favourite shows. The ultimate Chanel Carnival perfection.”
