Got the Balearic bug and desperate for a hedonistic weekender in Ibiza? There ain’t anywhere better to kick back, relax and regret your decisions from the night before than The Standard. As part of its global expansion, the luxe hotel chain’s newest location opened on the sunny island back in May slap bang in the heart of the Old Town.
Housed in a stark-white building with 53 rooms and suites available, the hotel includes a rooftop pool and restaurant, as well as a private residence, Casa Privada. With an arty, eclectic interior, The Standard strives to serve the finest food and provide only the top facilities about (including a stellar cocktail menu).
Just even check out the staff, who are all kitted out in uniforms designed by SMR Days. “I have always been impressed with The Standard’s style and the effortless ease they manage to create things that I hope also epitomise SMR Days,” says 10 family member Dan May, who co-founded the brand with Adam Shapiro and Gautam Rajani in 2020.
Aiming to provide a “complete holiday wardrobe for men” that evokes “long summer days spent in far-off locales”, SMR Days prizes quiet luxury via clothes with sun-kissed flare. Favouring tactile natural fabrics and artisanal techniques – many of which were discovered on a research trip to India – the brand’s designs make the perfect garb for balmy nights spent beside the beach.
“I think the key to all the collections is the effortless ease of the styles and wearability and that was what appealed to Elli [Jafari, The Standard Group’s European head] when she first saw the brand,” says May. “We stuck with that philosophy for the collaboration and worked on the fabrics which spoke to the various locations within the hotel where the outfits would be worn, complimenting the beautiful interiors that they had created.”
Coincidently, designing the uniforms was the brand’s first foray into womenswear, a move that felt “organic” says May. “A lot of the styles we’ve designed have been worn by our girlfriends: clothing is much more fluid these days and crosses over a lot more. So even though we designed kaftans for the collection, we see them being worn by guys and girls – we wanted people to have the choice and wear what they are most comfortable in.”
Be it lightweight gingham shirts, striped trousers, playful twinsets and tunic tops in vivid prints, why don’t you join The Standard’s staff by splashing out on your own SMR Days purchase? You’ll thank us later.
