If you are a creative in the fashion industry, working with friends is always the best; they instantly get what you’re doing, will do whatever you ask without question, and the result always feels a little more personal. So for Autumn/ Winter 18 that is exactly what the Rodarte sisters did. After last season’s show during Couture in Paris, this season they opted to release the collection via look book. However, calling this ‘just a look book’ really does not do it justice, because it is so much more. Instead of casting models Kate and Laura brought in their friends, and wow, if you thought you had cool friends, well, the Mulleavy girls take the cake.
For starters there is long term friend Kirsten Dunst, proving that Rodarte as maternity wear is tres chic. Now, I can confirm what good friends they are as I once saw them all eating together at Momofuku, and if you have got to the stage where you can eat something as tricksy as noodles together without embarrassment it is proof of a strong friendship indeed. Anyway, back to the matter at hand, the cast of women really is incredible; from Grimes, Kim Gordon and Joanna Newsom to Gia Coppola, Danai Gurira, Rowan Blanchard and more. The clothes are, as always, etherial and beautiful and things you just want to twirl in. It’s a testament to the brand that it now has such a strong DNA that these pieces have become instantly recognisable as Rodarte creations.
