Where on the map is the Prada universe? If we are to judge by the latest campaign to come from the Italian fashion house, it must be somewhere far, far away. Reminiscent of Kubrick’s 1968 masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey, the brand’s resort 2019 campaign is futuristic take on the days gone by. Looking back to look into future, that is – it’s the premise Mrs Prada has been pushing for seasons, seeking for modernity in retro inspirations. This time round, it was photographer Willy Vanderperre that got behind the (wide) lense and captured the enviably aloof group of models we desperately need in our close proximity. Wouldn’t you wanna hang out with Anok Yai and Julia Nobis dressed in trapper hat-to-toe Prada? It’s a firm yes.
Titled Raised Consciousness, the imagery and the video campaign capture the in-motion aspect of Prada’s con. Morphing one into the other, the borders of womenswear and menswear parish: there’s enough bold shoulder bags for everyone. The proportions of the clothes and the people are distorted and the colours shining hard, warping the visuals into something other-worldly. What is real and what is not? Who cares when it all looks so mighty fabulous.
